Why Vaultd Exists

Vaultd began with my best friend, Sean.

Sean battled cancer with a quiet strength that has stayed with me. Even as his world narrowed to treatments and hospital rooms, he was still fully himself. He joked, reflected, and shared pieces of who he was through conversations, messages, and voice notes.

When Sean passed, what struck me was not only the loss, but how fragile everything else felt. The things that mattered most were scattered. His voice lived in old voice notes. Photos were buried in camera rolls. Messages were spread across apps that were never designed to preserve someone’s life. Some were already gone.

There was no single place that held him in a meaningful, human way.

That realization became the seed for Vaultd.

We live our lives digitally, but we do not preserve them digitally with care.

Vaultd is not a social platform or another storage app. It is a private place to save the moments, voices, and memories that matter most, organized around people and relationships rather than feeds or algorithms.

It is a place to be intentional, to reflect, and to create time capsules for the future. A place where memories do not disappear when phones change, apps shut down, or time moves on.

I cannot bring Sean back. But I can help ensure that the people we love do not fade into lost messages and forgotten files.

Vaultd exists so what matters most has a place to live, carefully, privately, and for the long term.
